Clariant, a world leader in specialty chemicals, recently invested more than $65 million to add a new manufacturing facility to expand operations in Louisville, Kentucky.  Included in the $65 million investment was highly-specialized capital equipment to increase Clariant’s production of industrial catalysts used in the chemical and petrochemical industries.  Vulcan Fire Systems was brought in to design, install, and commission multiple special hazard and fire alarm systems to protect these capital assets and minimize potential downtime.

Vulcan utilized Infrared/Ultraviolet flame detection for immediate warnings combined with fire pumps and foam suppression to protect the raw material and finished product inventories.  Clean agent fire suppression systems were implemented in critical electrical/mechanical rooms and data processing rooms to protect those high-value assets and maintain operations in the event of a fire. Vulcan then integrated all fire protection systems into the main building fire alarm system, which was fiber optically-networked throughout the entire facility.

Clariant partnered with Vulcan to strategically implement proven technologies and best practice methods that deliver proactive fire detection and protection for the initiatives and investments in Clariant’s future success.
